Staff at KICS are well supported by their Governing Council. Professional development opportunities are available for all staff and they are financially supported to attend off and on island training. Staff meetings are held regularly and staff are expected to attend and are reimbursed for their attendance. Involvement in developing a Strategic plan, developing policies and reflecting on our vision are part of the professional learning of staff members. Understanding around children's development, an appreciation and respect of all children and their families and aspects of curriculum planning and documenting are regular agenda items. A range of policies are in place to support and guide our staff.

Class work

A number of staff are studying. They are supported by way of paid study days and by being assessed in the workplace for recognition for prior learning (RPL). Currently staff are working under a DECS scholarship, a cadetship and an Upskilling program. Additionally staff who choose to study privately are also being supported.

Recruitment across our services is an ongoing process. Relief staff are required regularly. A detailed induction process is provided when a new staff member starts and follow-up support is provided. A careful screening process exists to ensure that the most appropriate staff are working with the children.

The top priority in establishing the childcare rosters is to ensure that continuity of care for children is maintained wherever possible but being flexible, consistent and taking the best interests of the child, staff and service into consideration are also important.
